A Prayer For Owen Meany

I just finished A Prayer For Owen Meany.  This book is fantastic; it would make a great book for a college English class to study.  Debbie and I decided to get it after having heard John Irving (the author) read a passage from it in New York City last month.  He was highly entertaining and, since I had previously read The World According To Garp, I decided that it would be a good book to read.

This book is very complex; there is so much imagery about things like religion and "play within a play" type things.  Unlike Shakespeare, which traditionally would only have one play, this book has many plays and many books being referenced in the same manner, including, repeatedly, the Bible.

At first, the many references to christian religions worried me.  I was hoping the book was not going to be too "preachy".  It was not.  It will help, however, to have a little background in christian religion or the Bible.

I really enjoyed this book.  It made me cry; not just tears in my eyes, but rolling down my face.  Very moving.
