Every time I hear him speak, Ron Paul teaches me something

Ever since I started really contemplating the state of our country with the Military-Industrial Complex and how it controls our government through lobbying and no-compete contracts and political contributions, it has made me angry.  I always thought...

George McGovern speaks about Bush-Cheney

This is a well-written cry for help for our country.  This man has the wisdom of age and the experience of having run for President in the past.  He ran against Nixon and he is pining for the days that his old adversary was President...Read...

Another reason I'm being convinced that Universal Health Care is a good idea...

I have decided that Universal health care is a good idea.  Not for the typical bleeding heart "we must cradle everyone in our arms and allow them to suckle on the taxpayers teats"-kind of approach, but ... we're already paying for it anyway. ...

My surfing habits and that irritating 'double-click a word to pop-up a definition' (NY Times!)

I am a web-surfing multi-tasker.  For example, I currently have 7 tabs in this Firefox window and 5 more tabs in 2 other firefox windows going simultaneously.  When I mean "going", I mean they are usually queued up for me too read. So, I will...

Like Peter Tosh sang...

"Legalize It!"Here is a well thought out and sensible article that tells us why the 'War on Drugs' is a complete waste of our tax paying money. Why continue to empower drug lords and kill people over something that people want?  It's just silly. ...

Phidgets project update

The implementation of my Closet Venting Project was so easy in all the languages I tried.  I had to make it slightly more challenging.  So, I took the .NET Assemblies (DLLs) and used Reflector to disassemble them in to C# code.  Once...

Closet Venting Project

I had a problem with a closet full of computers getting too hot to the point that fans and power supplies were dying.  So, I decided to do something about it.  I used Phidgets for the sensors.  I wrote the software in C#, then PowerShell,...

Helpless

http://www.alternet.org/rights/55993This stuff makes me ashamed of my country.  That we could ever let this happen is astonishing.  That it still continues is repulsive.  An innocent guy getting tortured for 5 years by the US.  We...

Non-geeks finally caught up....

This is a well written article from the BBC, which talks about how Sci-Fi and Fantasy have made such a huge impact lately in both TV and Movies.  The main reason is that Sci-Fi and Fantasy are excellent ways to comment on current affairs in a way...

At least we're not the only ones ruining our educational system...

Here in the US, we have people trying to teach Religion (Creationism/Intelligent Design) in our Biology classes.Well, In the UK, we have people putting politics and soft, wishy-washy topics in their Physics classes...WTF folks?  Physics is one of...

*I* fixed an appliance!

OK... we have a U-line WC15 wine cooler (under counter model).  It stopped cooling.  So, we did the natural thing... bought a replacement (different product, same function). Then, after a little prodding from my father during his visit, I decided...

Overdue...

The video card in my front-end died, so I had to steal the video card from the back end, which defaulted it to the on-board ATI video.  Since I wasn't using the front-end part of my back-end machine, this wasn't too big of a deal.  The problem...

A Prayer For Owen Meany

I just finished A Prayer For Owen Meany.  This book is fantastic; it would make a great book for a college English class to study.  Debbie and I decided to get it after having heard John Irving (the author) read a passage...

Uhh... I thought "Bling Bling" was dead....

Some people have said that "Bling Bling" was dead as a saying as soon as white people like Kelly Ripa started saying it.  If there was ever a need to pulverize that horse into protoplasmic goo, well, Mattell has stepped up for us with  the Barbie...

leave it to a VB programmer...

OK, I've always been an admitted snob when it comes to Visual Basic.  To me, Visual Basic has always represented the blocks-with-letters-on-them version of languages.  Basically, most of the people who are really big fans of VB fall solidly...

Wine Nose

A while ago, I bought Le Nez du Vin in order to sharpen my (and my wife's) wine scent / flavor idenfitication skills.  This thing is pretty cool.  It contains all these little vials of fluids which are, basically, the essence of smells that...

New engine design -- Savior of the planet?

OK... this interview with an inventor (found it on Digg), is really cool.  Supposedly, he's invented what seems like an almost perfect engine.  If it was close to April 1st, I would call total bullshit on this, but it's not.  If any decent...

Posting frequency and new categories...

I have not been posting here as much as I like, so I have added two new categories: "Wine" and "Books".  These are two things I usually am doing a lot with, so I will be posting about wines I have and books that I have read.  Hopefully this...

I hope the music industry big wigs read this...

My friend Chris, a part-time music critic and apparently good writer, wrote a nice piece on how the music industry is just dead wrong on their approach to music sales.  It's chock full of good metaphors and similes and is quite poignant.Hopefully,...
